Short-term respite for families affected by the earthquake, tsunami and radiation in Japan
HelpJapansFamilies aims to provide short-term respite for children and their parents (or guardians). Hosts invite Japanese children and their parent(s) as guests for a short while; to stay in their homes and share their meals. It is our hope that this short period of recovery will let those affected by this disaster regain the strength they will need to deal with the hard work of rebuilding their lives.
Japan is a wealthy, well-organised country. But even so, the task of rebuilding is enormous, and putting the plans and resourced in place will take time. We would like to act as facilitation service between those people who have the ability and kindness to open their doors to strangers, and those affected by the disaster, whose only alternative otherwise would be to sit it out in a refuge or evacuation camp.
We have had lots of feedback, comments and questions since starting this site a few weeks ago and are developing a list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) to ensure that the scheme objectives and constraints are clearly defined. In the meantime please have a look around the site, 'like' us if you are on Facebook, follow us on Twitter (@JapansChildren) tell your friends, relatives and colleagues about us, and register if you want to be involved.
